Description

One of the main characteristics of the Boka Bay is the deep blue sea color, given by the steep surrounding mountains of the Lovćen massif on one side and Vrmac hill on another side of the Bay coast. Via Ferrata Kotor gives you the opportunity to climb up theses steep mountain rocks and enjoy the fabulous views on the Bay and small villages spread along the sea coast.

Via Ferrata Kotor

Via Ferrata is secured climbing up the steep rocks following the steel cable lined up the rock. All the participants are secured by alpine equipment which includes: belt connector, metal fasteners (carabineers) and helmet. At each point is the participant connected to the metal rope, so there is no fear of slipping or falling down. Its great about this activity that it is suitable also for people without any climbing experience. Young teenagers and older kids (from 10 years on words) can participate as well, if they are fond of activities. The guides for all the tours are experienced mountain rescuers (members of the Mountain Service), so you can let yourself and enjoy the activity.

Via Ferrata Kotor

Via Ferrata is completely new activity in Montenegro. The expression means iron path’, as back in the 19th century the high Alp villages were connected through that kind of path between each other. From that time this activity developed to a popular sport discipline. In Montenegro we have two fantastic locations of Via Ferrata. One is in Kotor, viewing the culture heritage of old town Kotor and the whole Bay of Kotor and the other one is in the North, in Durmitor mountains, viewing the high mountain peaks and green valleys of the national park.

Via Ferrata Kotor 20

In Kotor Via Ferrata starts from the hill foot next to one of the entrances in the old town of Kotor, at the exit of the Škurda Canyon. After the brief instruction on how to use the metal fasteners and the steel cable, we start our climbing adventure. There are always minimum 2 guides with the group at both ends of the line, to keep an eye on each participant and help them if needed. You attach yourself to the metal cable and pull yourself up the rock. The starting altitude is 80m and it ends at 205m. From up there you have excellent views on the Kotor Bay, the San Giovanni fortress, the entire Old Town Kotor and small coastal villages Prčanj and Muo. From middle of the iron path you have a clear view on the old zig-zag path leading over over the Lovćen slopes from Kotor to mountain village Njeguši and old capital Cetinje. The narrow road was so steep that it was only possible to cross it on foot or on a donkey.

Via Ferrata Kotor 21

The climbing itself lasts for 2 and half hours. We reach the peak of 205m above the sea level. On the way up you have numerous points for taking unique photos. The guides are always there to watch out for you and make you feel secure. After reaching the final point we walk down a path on another side, all the way to the starting point.

After all these activities you have half an hour free time in Kotor old town, to summaries the impressions and have a nice refreshment in one of the cozy cafes or restaurants within the city walls.
