Description

About Luštica

Luštica is a place where the natural beauty of the Mediterranean meets the luxury and wealth. Numerous small villages consisting only of a few houses, narrow village roads with traditional dry stone walls aside, Mediterranean orchards and olive groves gets you back in time of some vintage movie on the Adriatic coast. Numerous churches built from the 12th to 19th century and old Austro-Hungarian fortresses lying on the best view points of the peninsula tell the stories about the history of the local people. It is that simple beauty which attracted the wealthy investors, so today you can find there beautiful sea front villas, luxurious complex with port and restaurants like Luštica Bay, and beautiful small beaches turned into high level bathing area.

View to the bay of Herceg Novi

On our way to the olive oil producer we are passing a few fabulous places which makes Luštica authenticate and unique. The Solila of Tivat , former source of the precious salt, but today due to its swampy character it became the natural habitat of numerous bird species. Among other you can see there some rare specimens like flamingos and small cormorants.

Stone houses on the water

Further down the road we encounter to a small romantic fishermen village at the very sea coast called Bjelila. The small stone houses originate mainly since 700 years ago and are very similarly built. The village will delight you with it’s simplicity and soul. Due to many water springs in this part of the coast the water is there very clear and transparent.

Another gem we come across is small seafront place Rose, situated at the very peak of the peninsula, looking out to Herceg Novi and island Mamula. Once strategically very important for the bay entrance, today is the village a perfect get away from the crowd and everyday life. Solely the stone houses, a few local restaurants, clear sea and the sun. We take a short walk along the marine and enjoy the ambience.

The heron bird flies above the water

On the arrival we first visit the olive grove placed in a quiet area before the village entrance. The trees are nice and widely spread, while grass among them is fully covered by thyme and sprinkled with local lavender, rosemary and sage. If you come in early summer you can enjoy all these fabulous Mediterranean scents. There meets us a lovely peaceful donkey, who lives in the olive grove and adore to cuddle and greet all the visitors. For a complete atmosphere in the olive grove we are served a traditional welcome drink and snack consisting of fritters (traditional neutral dough) and organic honey with domestic brandy, while hearing the story about the tradition of olive growing in Luštica peninsula.

Olive Grove Luštica

Little further down the road is a new olive mill which is operational and is used for processing the olives and producing the olive oil for the inhabitants of the peninsula who bring their own olives.

The main event is visit and oil testing in the 300 year old house with a little younger stone olive mill. It’s fantastic to hear how the olive processing once worked. The owner himself leads us through the estate and gives us guided tasting of the artisan live oils. All that is completed by organic snack of local cheese, smoked ham, seasonal salad, table olives, traditional cake, as well as some wine or homemade juice.

All the products can be also purchased on spot.
